Open Source will fail

And I hope it will happen soon. Open Source software is fraught with problems. It is a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth. It is unreliable. There is sense in doing things the old way - following process, making money on it as opposed to doing something just for the sake of pseudo intellectual snobbery. ` We had a not-so-happy experience with jBPM on a project. All my bookmarks in Firefox disappeared. And I could not retrieve them. I've never had a problem with IE till date. I like MS and their products.

mmm Well,i am sure you have got the wrong impression. Open source doesn't not mean that it is developed by some 18-year old geeks and is unauthorized and not verified.

Open Source is not BAD.
Un-authorized Open source software has its risks. so You shouldn't use them. i.e i mean those BETA versions to be frank.

I am a Computer Science Grad-student myself. and Open source has been the greatest thing that ever happened to computer science.

Sure you are looking at it from a very day-to-day point of view.
Its okay.

Fire-Fox actually is the best browser there is, if you could some day understand how it actually works underneath. You probably downloaded some weird plug-ins from some crazy links. Authorized Mozilla plug-ins are totally bug-free.

Without Open Source , UNIX would never have been what it is today. and clearly Linux(which is a flavor of UNIX) is by far the very best in the field of operating Systems.your Internet Service Provider is probably running his server right now on the Linux Platform! the MAC OS is sooo great and much better than windows .. it so happens that MAC is based of UNIX. The Kubuntu Linux Operating System is much better looking than mac it self, i bet you cant believe it.check it out .and guess what they will even send a CD of it my post to your doorstep free of cost! www.kubuntu.org

All of Sun Micro systems products are Open source.and they are the very best and the Sun's technologies are whats supporting pretty much all of the devices u see around you that's gone digital.Your Mobile phones probably working on Java platform even though you don't know it.and guess what Java is open source, and is the most powerful platform there ever is,.

No offense chetana , i mean every other person will buy Ur argument that u had a crash and they should stop promoting open source.

But these are sensitive issues. open source Software is supporting technology based education initiatives for UN in Poor countries and War affected areas. Children in Those parts of the world are probably learning and getting an education as good as ours because of open-source initiatives.

Now why should we not support open-source initiatives.
What happened to you was you had a regular issue of what is known as a "Bug" in the internet world. Hmm.. lets see Before open source technologies became good enough to be released , like for example say in 1999, or 2000 what makes u think bugs and worms and viruses weren't there then.right? There are guys who are determined to make your system crash, open source or not there are there..lol...

well chetana , Obviously there is never a Yes or No answer to many things in this world, obviously you kinda got emotional. And Surely emotional Gyrations leave less room in ones head for intelligence. we should try to have a very objective view about things and make up our stance.

i mean i am not angry at you. But i wanted you to know that By taking up such a stance against Open-source technologies the world has more to lose than gain.

If u have found my comment as being very bleak... i am sure there are any things i don't know in the world, and i would be more than happy for you to enlighten me on those points.

thank you,
bye
